Verma, in an exclusive interview with IANS, spoke on a wide range of issues, including the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the farmer agitation, the winter session of Parliament, among others. .
Here are some excerpts:
Q. In Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav forms alliances with small parties to redress the caste equations against the BJP. What challenge will Akhilesh’s strategy pose to the BJP?
A. BJP will not be affected by the number of wedding rings Akhilesh sews. In 2017, he formed an alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal and Congress. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election he forged an alliance with Mayawati, but what was the result … The public rejected him completely in both polls.
In 2017, the BJP formed the government with an overwhelming mandate. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Saffron Party won 64 of 80 seats while the SP was decimated to just five.
Akhilesh is after power but he won’t get it. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP wave is sweeping the country.
Based on the work of the Modi government in the Center, the Yogi government in the state and a strong party organization, we will win over 300 seats and retain power in the state.
Q. But it is claimed that the SP and RLD alliance will deal a blow to the BJP in western UP because the farmers are angry with the party and Tikait is also from the same region?
A. Previously, the farmers’ movement had no impact and after the Prime Minister announced the repeal of agricultural laws, the issue is completely settled (although the laws were passed for the good. be farmers).
Q. Are you saying that the agitation of the farmers will have no impact on Western Uttar Pradesh?
A. Western Uttar Pradesh has always been the stronghold of the BJP. If we are talking about small and marginal farmers (92%), they have complete confidence in Modi.
Farmers know about development programs – Kisan Samman Nidhi, doubling farmers’ income by 2022 – run by our government. The farmers were with us, are with us and will be with us …
In the Panchayat, Zila Panchayat and Block Pramukh polls, farmers have shown themselves to be BJP.
Q. Congress Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tried to woo the female electorate by announcing a 40% reservation for them in the tickets. What impact will this have on the BJP’s poll prospects?
A. Priyanka Gandhi should say how many women have been appointed ministers in Congress-led Rajasthan … What they have done for women in other congressional-led states.
She knows she will not be able to come to power in Uttar Pradesh, which is why she can say anything. I have to tell you that Congress will not even be able to reach double digits in the polls …
Q. So who will the BJP fight against in Uttar Pradesh?
A. Competition is taken into account when someone is equal to you. Here we are going to win more than 300 seats and form the government … That’s why no one is competing in our competition. The opposition parties are fighting among themselves to take second or third place.
Q. But Akhilesh Yadav looked into the issue of the OBC community which plays an important role in government formation. He also accused your government of not having carried out a caste census.
A. When the SP supported the Congressional government of the time at the Center, at that time they did nothing for the CBO. Now SP can say whatever they want, but the public knows it all.
The Modi government gave constitutional status to the OBC Commission, set up a 27 percent reserve for CBOs in NEETs. No government in the past had as many ministers from the OBC community as we do.
Q. What will be the big deal in the Uttar Pradesh polls?
A. We have brought Central and State government welfare programs to the doorstep of the people without any bias. We have settled the law and order situation in the state.
The opposition taunted us by saying: “Ram Lala hum aayenge, tareekh nahi batayenge” (Ram Lala, we will come, but we will not say the dates), but we not only said the date, but we also asked the first stone of a large temple of Ram in Ayodhya and construction is underway.
Q. The opposition is ready to corner the government on inflation, the farmers’ problems, the security of the nation. What’s your strategy?
A. When it comes to inflation, everyone knows it is impacted by the price of oil in the international market, but despite this, Prime Minister Modi and the BJP-led states have given people a break. ordinary, but the government of other parties is still doing that … They should do the same too.
Respecting the feelings of a few farmers, we repeal the agricultural laws, although the laws have been introduced for their benefit.
Regarding the security of the nation, with the book by Congress leader Manish Tewari it was made clear that after the terrorist attacks of 11/26 in Mumbai, the UPA government did not take any action. .
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, our government has given Pakistan an appropriate response by carrying out surgical strikes.
The opposition has always pursued a policy of appeasement. By boycotting Constitution Day, he also insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar. They don’t care about the Constitution and constitutional values.
Q. You are MoS for DoNER. Since 2014, Modi has focused on connecting the northeastern states with the mainstream of development. What is the achievement?
A: The Prime Minister has given priority to the development of the northeast region. Under his leadership, each ministry of the union government devoted ten percent of its budget to the development of the 3.5 percent of the population residing in the region.
Also this year, the ministries sent Rs 68,500 crore for the development of the NE region.
At least 13 to 15 Union government ministers visit the northeastern states each month. In the next few days, we will try to complete all projects in these states on time. People in the states are happy with the Union government.
Q. For the first time, the Ministry of Cooperation has been established in the country and you are working with the Minister of Union Cooperation, Amit Shah. How do you see your work in the ministry?
A. Modi deserves congratulations for forming the Ministry of Cooperation. The leadership of the ministry has been entrusted to the Union’s Home Secretary, Amit Shah, known for making tough and daring decisions.
We are trying to fill the gaps in the cooperative sector so that it can play an important role in turning India into a $ 5,000 billion economy.
The ministry also focuses on eradicating poverty and unemployment and increasing the income of the population.
