Arizona lines up for NFL kickoff

The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) held its final public meeting to discuss the final version of the event betting rules on Friday, and the ADG director said the plan was to file those rules on Monday. with the Arizona Secretary of State in an effort to push for a September 9 launch date for sports betting.

Once the rules are passed to the Secretary of State, future sports betting operators will have 10 days to submit their requests to the ADG, department director Ted Vogt said. A few other dates and details were discussed during the 45-minute meeting on Friday morning, including:

  • Daily fantasy sports are scheduled to start on August 28.
  • Sports betting would be allowed to start marketing on the same day, and customers could also register – but not fund – their accounts.
  • There will be no mobile betting on tribal lands.
  • From August 30 to September 8, it will be time to finalize the licensing and certification issues ahead of the launch of sports betting.

Vogt also said that once the apps are launched, they will be made public on ADG’s website. All applications would be due no later than August 6.
